In this episode of Pressed in America, we touched down in Lafayette and drove to festivals, bars, and basements to talk to the musicians who contribute to the unique musical landscape in Cajun country – from Toups and his Cajun compatriots, to the creole Zydeco bands that tour the prairies and swamps, to 20-something squeezebox masters living and recording in downtown lofts. What we found was a region caught between an impulse to innovate, and the need to protect the traditions that make them special.
